
"During the residency I will continue my work around tactile memories and the ephemeral. I will work in the loom, delving deeper into the idea of holes/openings. The holes invite further interaction with the woven pieces once they are cut down from the loom. This approach allows for various installation possibilities, enabling the works to be layered, framed, or concealed in different ways."
Artist´s Statement
Helena Pernow is an artist working in the textile field, primarily with techniques such as weaving, dyeing and printing, but also with spatial installations and performance. In her work, she explore both in the material properties of textiles and in their ability to carry personal and collective memories. An consistent aspect of her work is the connection between material, place, time, and body - where material and tactile memories often serve as a starting point. Her work is most often presented in exhibitions but she also work with performance, where textiles are combined with choreography and text, opening up new dimensions of the work in the intersection between exhibition and performance.
Biography
Helena Pernow holds an MFA in Textiles from HDK-Valand Steneby (2020) and a BFA in Interior Architecture from Konstfack, Stockholm (2016). Since completing her master's degree, her work has been exhibited across Sweden, including at GIBCA Extended, Galleri Syster (Luleå), Stockholm Craft Week, Craft Days (Gothenburg), Not Quite (Fengersfors), Dalslands Konsthall, and Liljevalchs Konsthall (Stockholm). In parallel with her artistic practice, she works as a project manager at Konsthantverkscentrum (Swedish Craft Centre). She lives and works in Bärfendal, Bohuslän.
